![]() Saka has a difficult but interesting start position, on the edge of the far east but within range of the silk and gold cities on the silk road. Alanna has the worst start of the three, stuck way up at the edge of nowhere and having to fight across vast distances against other horse archer factions for a weak, sparse starting province while also enduring punishing winter attrition. The Saka Cataphracts are very strong stat-wise, but the Royal Scythian super cataphracts also have bows & arrows! However the literal workhorses of your nomad army are always going to be the cataphract archers, so the dedicated lancers don't matter as much.Īs for the strategic layer, Saka has easily the worst faction abilities of the three. The Alanna cataphract archers are the average of the other two and are probably the weakest of the three, but only barely so and are still very strong.Īs for actual cataphracts, I've always found that shock cavalry perform better in melee than melee cavalry in Rome 2, and the Saka and Royal Scythian super-cataphracts are shock and melee, respectively. Royal Scythian cataphract archers have the same armor, slightly higher rate of fire and higher weapon damage than the Saka cataphract horse archers, which themselves have higher melee attack, melee defense and charge. Royal Scythia gets armored archers that don't matter because cataphract archers are better. All three get super heavy spear infantry, cataphract archers, and super cataphracts. so if you want to min max go saka if you want a pretty good all around royal Scythia is really good and easier to pull offĪll 3 units rosters are so similar in stats as to be almost indistinguishable. Heavy archer cav from any of them are amazing and outclass all other cav by so much it doesn't matter too much. And though I love my super heavy saka cav and they are fun. ![]() You start out with one minor settlement and low friends. Also on my halarious forced confederation where I made royal scythia merge with me despite it being about equal size with me controlling most of the land between Dacia and media.īiggest weakness is starting is super hard, recommend doing the soft core start. Once I finish creating my ultimate heavy cav min-maxing I'll do a post on it. In one battle I front charged hoplites in a 1v1 and the cataphracts smashed them with like 3 losses which was surprising to me. 33 armor, 75 attack 70 defense like 50 charge(not at home). I'm not all the way to max military traditions and research for final cataphracts but these guys are crazy. I have taken Parthia and made it into a purely military providence, max barracks, stables, herd, the local horse resource boost and military academy. ![]() They also have fairly quick access to aor info-Hellenic peltast, and hoplites plus sogdian axemen and elephants!( elephants plus heavy cav charge!)Īs for "slightly" better cataphracts i think they are fun to go for. In my current campaign I am playing them and have several army's of all elite cataphracts and heavy horse archers with tons of money coming in. If you're worried about economy saka have early access to strong economy regions like bakria. ![]()
